A screenshot is not proof on its own
A screenshot, an old headline, or a clipped video does not verify a claim by itself. The image may be genuine and still belong to a different date or event.
Three quick checks
Find the earliest source you can and check whether the publication date matches the event. Old material can circulate as if it were new.
Look for the claim in independent, reliable sources. Reverse image search can help reveal where a photograph appeared before.
Check the source, date, and independent confirmation. If any are unclear, pause; saying “I haven’t verified this yet” is a careful choice.
